Annual Workshop Day 3: Reconnecting with the Land and Water
May 30, 2024.
The third and final day of LWW’s annual workshop, themed “Reconnecting with the Land and Water” featured presentations by Benji Eisenberg on regenerative coastal pilot projects with Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and by K’iinuwaas Carrie Anne Vanderhoop (photo above by Patrick Shannon for the Haida Gwaii Institute) on her ancestral relationships to the lands, waters, and practices within them.
Following such rich and generous presentations was a collective inquiry about critical infrastructure. Together workshop participants defined the term and tested the boundaries of its meaning.
The workshop concluded with a walking tour of “Musqueam Indian Reserve 2”, and a farewell celebration toast by the sʔi:ɬqəy̓ (double-headed serpent) carved by artist Brent Sparrow Jr., which overlooks UBC campus (photo from UBC).
