Case Study: Evaluating Nature-based Solutions on the Tsleil-Waututh Shoreline

Starting off the school year with a splash: a 3-month student research project in 2020 looking at coastal nature-based solutions along the Tsleil-Waututh Nation community shoreline (northern shoreline of Burrard Inlet) has been published online. The TU Delft students used their engineering skills and tools to evaluate the performance of certain nature-based solutions. This included estimating the wave energy reduction provided by the solutions. (The report can be downloaded at the bottom of the page link above.) Thanks to Amir for the info!))

It was also noted that a course called “Decolonizing Methodologies for Respectful Sustainability Research” is being offered at the University of Waterloo for non-Waterloo students for the Fall 2021 semester!

In addition, Living with Water members started off the new school year noting the importance and usefulness of small groups. Considering this, milestones meetings were scheduled to coordinate the integration amongst smaller research teams, to stay connected and exchange information under the umbrella of the total project. New recipients of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions scholarships began working with faculty; getting started on their research projects.
